Marmota doubles high-grade gold strike at Greenewood–Mainwood to over 2km as drilling results feed into its Gawler scoping study.

  • 01Strike doubled to >2km after 32,000m drilling.
  • 02High-grade gold traced from surface to 240m.
  • 03Results will inform Gawler gold scoping study.

Marmota (ASX: MEU) has doubled the identified strike of high-grade gold zones at its Greenewood and Mainwood discoveries in South Australia following an extensive third stage of drilling.

The latest program comprised more than 32,000 metres of reverse circulation drilling and established contiguous high-grade mineralisation both north and south of Greenewood.

The combined Greenewood–Mainwood mineralised trend now extends more than two kilometres, with drilling tracing gold from near surface to depths of 240m.

The results will be incorporated into the scoping study underway for Marmota’s broader Gawler gold project, which includes several nearby gold deposits.

The company is looking to exploit the obvious economies of scope resulting from the proximity of Greenewood–Mainwood to its flagship Aurora Tank project.

Expanded Gold Footprint

First drilling by Marmota at Mainwood, the southern extension of Greenewood, returned high-grade gold across adjacent sections in an area with limited previous RC coverage.

Initial 4m composite assays from the first 15 of 83 sections included hits of 15 grams per tonne gold and 14g/t gold.

Those intervals formed part of broader intersections of 16m at 4.2g/t and 20m at 3.1g/t respectively, illustrating mineralisation across wider downhole widths.

Other southern results included 8m at 5.2g/t within 24m at 2.1g/t, while the first intersections generally began at shallow depths.

The Mainwood discovery has extended the tested gold system into fresh rock, although the initial composite assays still require detailed 1m sample results.

Deeper Northern Drilling

At Greenewood’s northern end, extension drilling identified further contiguous high-grade gold across 20 additional section lines and left the mineralised system open along strike.

Standout intersections included 8m at 11.5g/t from 184m downhole and 8m at 10g/t from 152m, each containing higher-grade 4m intervals.

The northern program also intersected 12m at 3.4g/t from 236m downhole, supporting the interpretation that mineralisation persists at greater depth.

Together with the southern discoveries, these results substantially broaden the mineralised footprint available for assessment within the Gawler Gold scoping study.

Marmota holds 90% of the Golden Moon joint venture covering Greenewood and Mainwood, alongside other deposits near Aurora Tank.

Junction Dam Planning

Outside gold, Marmota completed the design of its Junction Dam uranium restart drilling program, covering four target areas including a previously untested potential palaeochannel extension.

The program is fully designed and funded but remains dependent on Native Title clearances before drilling can commence.

Targets include a planned 24-hole test of a priority palaeochannel and 15 holes across gravity-defined depressions, with downhole geophysical logging proposed.

Marmota ended September with $13.259 million in cash after spending $1.632m on exploration and evaluation during the quarter.

The company reported an estimated 8.5 quarters of funding at its September-quarter expenditure rate, while remaining gold assays and detailed samples are being processed for the scoping study.
